“Olympus III” Song of the day: Death in reverse by John Mark McMillan @johnmarkmcmillan Posting this last photo from the series feels quite melancholic. But it’s almost like some sort of closure. And if there is something that I lack in my life is a healthy amount of closure, haha! I started tidying up my room today, but I gave up half-way through. So now I have a pile of stuff in the middle of the room, waiting to be relocated/put back/thrown away. It’s terribly cold outside, and I just came back from a walk. My moustache and beard turned white and my ears are still defrosting. I should probably go downstairs and fix myself a hot cup of mint tea with lemon and honey. Off I go! I hope everyone is having a peaceful weekend! x #origami #icarusmidair #mythology #olympus #white #wings #wings #paperart #papercut #craft #diy #paper #feathers #feather #delicate #miniature

“for the love of paper wings” crane Song of the day: Donne-moi by Titelaine @titelainemusique Hello! I’ve only had two and a half hours of sleep last night, and now I am nursing a criminal headache, so I will keep this one short. It has been overwhelming to see the response to the @60secdocs interview I did and which is now out in the world. Thank you VERY much for all the feedback, the heartfelt messages and the support! It means a great deal! I made this crane last week and shared it while I did my takeover of @MyModernMet, but I thought I’d add it to my own flock here as well. Yes, I still have wings on my mind; and many, many of them! Time to get some rest now. I hope everyone is having a good week so far! x #origami #paperart #cristianmarianciuc #icarusmidair #papercutting #paper #miniature #wings #wing

“flowers and bread” crane Song of the day: Utopia by Vancouver Sleep Clinic @vancouversleepclinic I slept in this morning and it was really nice. I had some breakfast and then I went flower-picking in the little forest not far from my place. I found some wood anemones, or as we call them in Romania: “Easter flowers” and also some cherry blossoms. And this is how today’s crane was born. I had to work quickly because the flowers were wilting quite rapidly. Now, I just finished baking up a storm, haha. I made chili cheese cornbread and some focaccia. It’s that kind of a Monday I suppose. I hope everyone is having a peaceful start to the week. #icarusmidair #cristianmarianciuc #origami #floral #flowers #cherryblossom #sakura #hanami #blossom #petals #delicate

“borderless self” crane Song of the day: Apollo by Tourist @tourist It was time I revisited a side of my identity that I don’t talk about all that much: my geographic roots. I was born in Romania: in a minuscule town in the north-east of the country. The region is called Bucovina. For this crane, I did some research in the area of local folkloric motifs, and after looking at countless traditional costumes and textiles, houses and other decorations, I created my own patterns. I spent many hours creating the designs and then very, very carefully cutting them out with my trusted @excelblades knife. I then layered the different components and voilà. I was so excited with the final result, that I felt the need to show this crane off to people around me. Mum approved it, and I could not ask for more. Check out my stories to see all the tiny details – of which there are many and intricate. I will most definitely come back to this topic of cultural identity. It’s something that, along with languages, fascinates me very much! x #origami #icarusmidair #folklore #traditional #bucovina #bukowina #romania #romanian #culture #paperart #papercutting
